ITAtech platform is the first initiative by Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP) and European Investment Fund (Eif, Bei Group) to support the Italian Technology Transfer (TT) ecosystem
CDP and EIF have joined forces to support the development of equity investments in technological innovation and the commercialization of the output of Italian universities and research centers.
ITAtech is the first investment platform in support of research to finance the TT, developing a bridge between the academic research, investors and the market.
The investment fund is a financial instrument created to catalyze and accelerate the commercialization of intellectual properties with high technological content, and more generally the translation of research and innovation into new businesses.
CDP and EIF are firmly convinced that the development of adequate financial instrument for funding innovation across different stages of fife of innovative startups is an important pillar of Italy’s competitiveness.
The fund builds on CDP’s knowledge of the Italian market and innovation ecosystem, and the experience of EIF, which has spearheaded the development of TT initiatives and other similar programs throughout Europe.
ITAtech is a very selective and ambitious investment fund to support Italian research with the role of agent for change in academic institutions and clusters.

CDP and FEI are ready to jointly provide up to EUR 200m to finance ITAtech.
ITAtech, which is open also to other investors, will develop a portfolio composed of investment to promote the technology transfer from Italian universities and research centers to the market.
ITAtech will focus on key private and public stakeholders active in TT, including Italian universities, research centers, Technology Transfer Offices (TTO), startups, accelerator and early-stage investors. The fundwill target opportunities in the technology sectors in which Italy excels, or is keen to develop and where there is a proven interest from the corporate and business sectors.
ITAtech will operate in the market with several intervention schemes. TT could operate through the drivers which represent the mode of technology exploitation and the mechanisms to access the market, such as the establishment of startups and spin outs, licensing, or contractual research agreement with industrial companies interested in the development of intellectual property.
Both design and implementation shall be undertaken jointly by CDP and EIF, choosing the mechanisms and terms that best suited to aid the development of the innovation ecosystem under the Platform.
