The re-qualification project presented for the former industrial complex promoted by CDP Immobiliare and Aermont. Shops, co-living, modernisation and tradition: 100 thousand square metres dedicated to the community
Looking forward toward re-interpreting traditionsis the concept behind the re-qualification project for Florence’s Ex Manifattura Tabacchi, presented today in the Tuscan capital in the presence of Salvatore Sardo, CEO of CDP Immobiliare and COO of CDP Group; Dario Nardella, Mayor of Florence; and Giovanni Manfredi, Managing Director for Italy of Aermont Capital LLP, a real estate investment company based in London.
Aermont heads PW Real Estate III LP, the investment fund with which CDP Immobiliare signed a joint venture in 2016 to promote the re-qualification of a strategic area for Florence. With its 100 thousand square metres of surface space the former Manifattura Tabacchi is ready to transform from disused industrial complex to aggregation hub open to everyone, 365 days a year, for culture, tourism, education and crafts.
The re-qualification masterplan, awarded to Dutch firm Concrete Architectural Associates, is based on the convergence of modernity and tradition, andhistorical relevance and innovation. That is why a large covered square will stand at the centre of the new complex. As in the past, it will be the nerve centre of the former Manifattura Tabacchi. It will be surrounded by refreshment areas, shops and informal andopen working environments, based on sociality and integration. Moreover, a new district with squares, roads and buildings will be created around the central space, to be used in various ways: co-living, hospitality, private homes, a theatre and a brewery, for meeting and aggregation purposes. A primary role will be dedicated to crafts, interpreted in a modern, technological way.
The project foresees ample spaces for top quality production labs and ateliers for artists, with production and sales. Courageously and skilfully the CDP Group has chosen to invest, together with Aermont, in a high social value re-qualification project, working with prestigious real estate structures. Hence commitments to add value to the territory are ongoing, through urban transformation to give the collectivity innovative, functional, and sustainable spaces.
